Music plays a vital role in the way a film is perceived and accepted by its audience. In this study, film, music and melody are approached from a musical, psychological, and emotional point of view. This project seeks to understand the psyche and emotions of a listener/viewer. I will analyze the melodies of three works by two classical composers, Franz Liszt (two works), and Sergei Prokefiev (one work), and apply their music to short films in order to examine the ways in which melody impacts a film. Finally, this research will analyze a melody that I composed and explore its effect on a short film.
