Spelman College is well known for the success of its graduates in the workforce. Because of this, students feel the need to overachieve in their studies. 62 Spelman College students were asked to participate in an anonymous online survey. The survey asked about academic stereotypes, academic performance, and stress. A Pearson Correlation was conducted to explore the relationships between fulfilling the academic stereotypes and academic performance, and fulfilling academic stereotypes and stress. The results indicated that neither relationship was statistically significant, (academic stereotypes and academic performance) r = .035 and (fulfilling academic stereotypes and stress) r = .081. Limitations and plans for further research will be discussed.
