Zero-tolerance policies in schools require severe disciplinary action regardless of the number of infractions or offenses (Skiba 2010). These zero-tolerance rules can result in children being suspended and even expelled from school. Schools relinquish their responsibility to the students they were built to serve. Schools use these polices to make examples of students. This study examines The Love Model, a model of discipline employed at an urban charter school. Through observations of program implementation with target students, this study examines the effectiveness of the discipline model on elementary student behaviors. This research will contribute to our understanding of alternative discipline models in urban charter elementary school environments.
